I sat back in my throne to continue cycling mana and life-force into both the dungeon and myself when Sara broke the plane of the entryway door and took off in a dead sprint back into the forest. She was naked and carried only a mana blade with her.

I left the center chamber and ghosted after her. Maybe she was just out to do some stretching, or hunt to pass the time. Either way, naked anything was always at the top of my must-watch list.

When I arrived, she was perched high on a tree branch with the mana blade out and lit. But the form had been changed. It was long and slender, with a recurve in it, and a long, glowing arrow made of light set into it.

I floated up to eye level with her and came across from the opposite canopy in full view of her. She saw me and teetered a bit, but had her balance back in the blink of an eye.

“Don’t startle me like that,” she whispered, and continued to peer down at the ground.

After a moment of silence, her prey hopped out from the blue-green underbrush dotting the bottom of the trees in front of us. She shifted her weight under her and pulled back the energy bow string. A shot from this distance with a hand accelerated projectile was no amateur shot choice. She lined up the little white fur-ball along the top of the arrow shaft and stared downward. Her head came away one time to check her line of sight then leaned back into aiming position.

The rabbit was feeding on nuts that had dropped from the newly-formed canopy above, chittering away and spinning the hard shell around, probing for an opening.

Sara let out a sigh, turned her head, and haphazardly let the shot fly. The light arrow missed the target by a good four feet, but the ground exploded in light. A charred ball with shriveled legs lay smoking on the burnt grass.

“This is bullshit. I need a real bow with real arrows. It’s too easy with the light arrow. They aren’t affected by wind or gravity and they are soundless. The perfect killing weapon.” She looked at me and just shook her head.

“Do you have a particular bow in mind?”

“Yes. But why? Are you going to order one on Galactagon.space.net and get it same day teleported here?”

“I do not get that reference. Monks never buy anything. Just come here.”

I laid my hand on her head and connected our minds. Traveling through the tunnel of light down into her psyche and memories, I came upon the bow she had wanted. I took in its every detail and left the rest of her memories for another time.

I came out of her mind and she held her head in one hand as she leaned on the trunk of the tree, teetering far above the forest floor.

“I hope I get used to that someday. It’s sexy but really fuckin’ weird. You didn’t nose around in there for anything else, did you?”

The question was a fair one.
